Easy Taco Salads

Easy Taco Salads

Need a quick, healthy, and super easy dinner? These taco salads are perfect! I always opt for ground turkey instead of ground beef and always try to grab the leanest percentage. The easiest way to make this recipe is by getting a bagged salad and using that as the base instead of spending lots of time cleaning and chopping lettuce. I love the southwestern chopped salad for this recipe because it comes with green onion, cilantro, and tortilla strips. You can also add any items you have on hand that you think you might like in this salad.

Ingredients:

  • Southwestern Chopped Bag Salad
  • Ground Turkey
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Roasted Corn
  • Tomatoes
  • Onion
  • (Any additional toppings of your choice: cheese, sour cream, avocado, salsa, taco sauce, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Brown ground turkey in skillet over medium high heat, breaking up the meat while it cooks. (I love this kitchen tool for this step!)
  2. Add in taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Let it simmer on low heat.
  3. While the meat is cooking, fix the roasted corn in skillet per package instructions.
  4. Assemble your salad in the following layers: lettuce, taco meat, corn, tomatoes, onion, & tortilla strips.
  5. Drizzle with salad dressing or taco sauce.

Enjoy!

3 Tips for Decorating a Christmas Tree

3 Tips for Decorating a Christmas Tree

Ahh, my favorite time of the year! If you know me, you know I love the Christmas season and celebrating the real reason. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and decorating for the holiday is no different!

Do you struggle filling in the empty gaps or adding character to your tree? Is the perfect amount of chaos a thing? That’s what I think about when thinking of tree decor. I’m sharing my top 3 tips when it comes to decorating a Christmas tree!

img_2612

1. Add 3 Different Ribbons

In my opinion, this is key to making your tree look full! It’s a way to give your tree life and not make it look so bland. I find that using wire ribbon works best. I like mixing up the ribbons. I start with a ribbon with more texture. I used the burlap mesh ribbon first. I then went in with a ribbon with a little sparkle. I finished with a ribbon in the main print and look I’m going for. I add that ribbon last that way if the ribbons overlap in any spots, the main ribbon will be the one overlapping and not more hidden under the others.

I have no rhyme or reason for how I put the ribbon on the tree, so I’m going to try to explain it the best I can. I don’t start at the top and wrap the ribbon in a circle around and down the tree. I start in a random spot and will tuck the ribbon on a branch towards the back of the middle of the tree. I will then take the ribbon in whatever direction I think will look best…could be horizontal, vertical or diagonal. I take approximately 2″-4″ of ribbon in one direction, tuck, and then go in another direction. I do this with all 3 ribbons.

2. Add Small & Large Picks

This helps give dimension and texture to your tree. I love adding large picks to the top of my tree to make it look more full of life and give it a little bit chaos. I went with a couple different types of large picks. I added a couple flocked picks with berries for a classic look and a couple crazy picks for character. It’s ok to have some picks sticking out and not super tight and hidden. I like adding little picks throughout the tree. I choose one look for the small ones and stick with it. I went with the little red berries to add a little pop of color.

3. Choose a Color Theme & Add Character

I love neutral colors so I went with white and black and added in pops of burlap, gold, glitter and red. If you know me, you know my favorite accessory is hats and I love gingham print. I created my tree around those 2 things. I started with finding the tree topper and ribbon. I found a couple of gingham hat ornaments and added in some little leopard print owls. I just bought a variety pack of neutral ornaments and added those in last. I think the key is finding something connected to you or your family and incorporating those into your tree theme.

I love being able to look at a tree and see someone’s personality and style through their decor. By no means do I know everything about decorating a Christmas tree or claim to. But I hope this helps you add some character and life to your tree if you need it.

While I love decorating for Christmas and everything about it. I love celebrating the real reason for the season more!

Please tag me if you incorporate any of these tips into your tree decorating! I love seeing everyone’s decor! I have linked everything I can and/or similar items here.

Beach Necessities

Beach Necessities

How many of us head off to the beach thinking we have over packed, only to find out we left the main necessity? I’m that person! How many times do I get there and think “Oh no,  I so should’ve brought that!” and it’s something so simple!

I’m sharing these beach necessities that I don’t go without!

1. Good Sunscreen

This is a no brainer, right? Invest in a good sunscreen. Many sunscreens will burn and irritate my face at the beach when I’m in the saltwater and sand. Who wants to deal with your eyes burning with irritation at the beach? Tula face sunscreen is the best I’ve used! I wear it every single day under my makeup. It doesn’t leave a white film and gives a very faint glow. It even shields from damaging blue light & pollution! Sun Bum sunscreen is my go-to for sunscreen on my body!

2. Insulated Water Bottle

I can’t go to the beach without my bottle! Having a bottle full of ice to keep my drinks cold all day is a game changer in hot weather. I use the CamelBak and it’s also leak proof!

img_0519

3. Beach Chairs

If you’re heading off to the beach, beach chairs are a must! There’s nothing better than putting the chair at the edge of the water and letting the waves crash onto your feet. It is a must have for staying cool. You could also take a chance and rent a chair if available. I normally choose the thrifty route.

4. Sunglasses

Another no brainer, right? The sun is so bright I can feel my squint line carving a wrinkle between my eyes.  I wear polarized Ray-Ban Aviators or Ray-Ban Round Double Bridge sunglasses almost everyday. However, any sunglasses will help!

5. Waterproof Mascara

I don’t normally wear makeup during the day at the beach. However, if I decide to go out and grab breakfast or something in the morning then I like to put on a little mascara. This waterproof mascara is perfect for a day at the beach and is less than $10 on Amazon!

6. Beach Hat

I don’t always wear a hat at the beach, but there are days that I feel like I need to. I personally love wearing visors out on the beach because they aren’t as hot on my head. A beach hat is also great for evenings out when your hair just isn’t cooperating. Both of my favorites are from Target.

img_0990

7. Lotion/Moisturizer

The saltwater and sun dries my skin out so much. A good lotion for your body and moisturizer for your face are essential. I love using the Sun Bum Cool Down lotion after a long day in the sun. The Tula Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer is the only moisturizer I’ve found that works on my skin. However, if you have dry-normal skin then I reccommend their 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream!

8. Curl Cream

I don’t wear my hair naturally curly often. HOWEVER…My hair and hot/humid weather do NOT mix. I can fix my hair and walk outside and it instantly just frizzes up. When I am in the ocean and pool and get my hair wet, I have to wash it every evening. I don’t like putting so much heat on my hair every single day. SO, some days curl cream or gel it is!

9. Bluetooth Speaker

There’s nothing better than having a good country playlist playing while your sitting in your beach chair with your toes in the sand. A bluetooth speaker is a better alternative than trying to play the music from your phone.

10. Benedryl/Medication

Not just for the beach, but any trip…medicine is a must. You may never use it, but you never know when you’ll need it. You never know when you’ll break out from a lotion or anything. It’s always good to have benedryl or some kind of allergy medication on hand.
